Jim Pitzer tells us that Moses understood the important difference between God’s mighty acts which are temporal, and his ways which are eternal. God got the Egyptians’ attention through the plagues which were direct judgements of their gods. This is one of the unchanging ways in which God relates to nations and people (including his own). When we chase other gods, God can use the very idols we have created in order to lay hold of our hearts. God is a covenant maker! If we’ve claimed him, God will, in love and grace, see to it that the covenant is fulfilled.
