Pastor Chris Townsend examines Joseph’s response when his brothers, who had sold him into slavery, were later in dire need of assistance. In the midst of his chaotic circumstances, Joseph acknowledges the sovereignty of God. Instead of repaying the brothers’ evil with evil, Joseph uses his civic gifts and the position within the Egyptian government where God placed him in order to provide the family with abundant good. He understood his role as a citizen of the kingdom of God and as a civic leader. As Jesus followers, we’re also called to respond as good citizens of God’s kingdom by respecting all others, loving the family of disciples, revering God, and honoring civic leaders.
