Psalm 39 – Renovaré

Pastor Brian Goke observes that Psalms invite us into honest conversation with God as we navigate this life. The psalms can help us to express our low, hurt, angry feelings and our highest thoughts of praise and gratitude. David begins Psalm 39 by recounting the wickedness and stressful circumstance around him. He asks for perspective and is reminded that we are just a breath and our good and faithful God is with us. By the end, David is filled with hope and expectation. With a kingdom perspective, like David, we trust God is in control. We may not be able to change circumstances, but through the Holy Spirit we can change our attitude. We’d do well to follow Jesus’ perfect example for reacting to stressful situations – look up and pray!
