Pastor Brian Goke notes that Job was righteous and God fearing, and yet was devastated. This raises questions for faithful Jesus followers! The consequences of three sin categories generate suffering: (1) Original Sin corrupted every aspect of creation when it entered the world and Satan and demons continue to wreak havoc; (2) we sin; and (3) other people sin. While we don’t have clear answers about why righteous people suffer, we can learn how to respond when we or others suffer. Job felt powerful emotions, grieved, and worshiped simultaneously. We can choose to trust what we know to be true about the unchanging goodness, love, and forgiveness of God.
