Pastor Brian Goke describes the intertestamental years: the temple’s been rebuilt, Jerusalem’s walls are repaired, and God’s people are longing for the promised rescuer. We also often wait on a word from God. In our waiting, we can consider the GOOD news message and the messenger – in this case, John the Baptist, a man of great faith and character. Untold numbers traveling to hear John and be baptized as a sign of repentance was an extraordinary movement of God. As we wait for God’s chosen moments, we can prepare by following the consistent pattern in Scripture. Regularly repenting of sin and taking on a posture of surrender set the stage for us to experience the very presence of God!
