Synopsis

Ryan Woodside describes the layered scene unfolding in Acts 1:15-26 between two big moments in the life of the early church. Periods of transition are often coupled with exciting or agonizing periods of waiting. The apostles are waiting on the Holy Spirit who Jesus has promised. Like the Apostles, we’re invited to wait well. We can pursue God’s will through studying and thinking in accordance with scripture; pray for God’s guidance and allow ourselves to be shaped; and actively prepare for God’s presence and participate in his work. God’s redemptive plan is more complicated than we can imagine and is always worth the wait. We still live in the wake of the apostles’ faithfulness!
