Jim Pitzer suggests that when we understand the desperate condition of the beggar described in Acts 3, we can more fully understand the significance of his miraculous healing. The beggar’s own expectations and the actions of those around him (throwing a few coins in his jar) only maintained his condition. However, near the temple court of the Gentiles, a place where people from all over the world could witness, he was transformed by an encounter in Jesus’ name. Without Jesus, each of us is the helpless beggar. We are only healed by the renewing, redeeming, restoring power of the risen Jesus!
