Pastor Brian notes that rabbis often debated which commandment is greatest. Jesus declared fully loving the Lord is the greatest and then made an inextricable connection with the command to love one’s neighbor. Today, we don’t agree on a definition of love and struggle with how to actually love others. Jesus calls us to Agape – love that is wide open, unconditional, sacrificial. Agape transcends emotions and is rooted in action, commitment, and choice. From the overflow of this Agape, God began creating and Jesus, demonstrating commitment, died for us. Choosing to love others can be difficult, but as Christians it is essential.
